EH BOE accepts several donations

The East Holmes Local Schools Board of Education met for a regular meeting on Friday, Feb. 16 at the East Holmes Central Office.

The board did the following during the meeting:

—Recognized the following Hiland WKLM Students of the Week: Caleb Gongora, Jan. 29 through Feb. 2; Ellie Yoder, Jan. 29 through Feb. 2; Hayley Yoder, Feb. 5-9; Taylor Swartzentruber, Feb. 5-9; Solomia Tkachuk, Feb. 12-16; Cheyanne Mackey, Feb. 19-23; Allie Beun, Feb. 19-23; Bryn Yoder, Feb. 26 through March 1; and Gabe Troyer, Feb. 26 through March 1.

—Approved a Then & Now Certificate for Tom Mullet Tours for $10,000 for the middle school field trips fund.

—Adopted a resolution accepting the rates and amounts as determined by the Holmes County Budget Commission, authorizing the necessary tax levies and certifying them to the county auditor.

—Accepted the following donations: $2,370.08 from Kristy Bowling for pneumatics kits for the Hiland Robotics Club, $200 from Ella Miller to the Business Professionals of America’s pizza fundraiser, $50 from Robbie and Karen Keim for the Hiland teachers appreciation cart, and two office desks from Edward D. Jones for the district.

—Approved inter-district open enrollment for two students at Winesburg Elementary and intra-district open enrollment for two students at Berlin Elementary for the remainder of the 2023-24 school year.

—Approved an addendum to the educational/special services contract with the Tri-County Educational Service Center.

—Approved the Memorandum of Understandings between Kent State University, University of Akron, Lorain County Community College and Stark State College for the College Credit Plus program for the 2024-25 school year.

—Approved the annual renewal of service with the Ohio High School Athletic Association for 2024-25 programs in athletic tournaments, athletic eligibility and athletic supervision for interscholastic competition in seventh grade through 12th grade.

—Approved the 2024-25 Hiland High and Middle School curriculum guidebook.

—Adopted the following resolutions: Music in Our Schools Month (March 2024), sponsored by the Ohio Music Education Association with a theme of “I See Music Education,” and Youth Art Month (March 2024), sponsored by the Ohio Art Education Association with a theme of “Dream in Art.”

—Accepted the following resignations: Christian Sanko, spring play director, effective Jan. 25, and Karen Miller, bus driver, retiring effective at the end of the 2023-24 contractual school year.

—Approved all substitute personnel hired by East Holmes Local Schools and the Tri-County Educational Service Center for the 2023-24 school year.

—Approved a supplemental position for the 2023-24 school year for Melissa Diener, spring play director.

Other information

The next board meeting is scheduled for March 15 at the East Holmes Central Office.
