County libraries to host eclipse events

On April 8 a total solar eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States and Canada. The last total solar eclipse visible in Ohio was in 1806.
A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon appears to totally obscure the sun. Celebrate this event with the Tuscarawas County Public Library System during various prep and watch parties across their locations.
Local astronomy enthusiast Terry Barnhill will talk about the spring sky and the different seasons on March 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the Tuscarawas County Main Library. Barnhill also will discuss the upcoming total eclipse and how to view it.
Speaker Carl Quatraro will present on the solar eclipse on March 27 at 6:30 p.m. at the Tuscarawas County Main Library. There will be free eclipse viewing glasses given out while supplies last at the end of the program.
Students in sixth grade through 12th grade are invited to join in learning about the upcoming total solar eclipse and create their own eclipse viewer on April 2 at 4 p.m. at the Bolivar Branch Library.
At the Solar Eclipse Prep Party on April 6 at 2 p.m. at the Tuscarawas County Main Library, participants will make bracelets with UV beads and cereal box indirect viewers and will participate in a moon crater experiment.
Bring your lawn chair for a watch party on April 8 at 2:30 p.m. at the Tuscarawas County Main Library on the front lawn for the eclipse.
Enjoy some snacks while watching the eclipse on April 8 at 3:15 p.m. at the Strasburg Branch Library. Participants will receive glasses.
It is important to wear specialized eye protection designed for solar viewing if you would like to view the eclipse. In addition to the programs noted above where the library will distribute glasses, all Tuscarawas County Public Library locations will have eclipse viewing glasses to hand out while supplies last during regular library hours on March 22.
