Estimates for upgrading security at the Mineral City Village Hall and library were presented to council at its Jan. 25 meeting by council member Beth Nill. Council elected to move forward with a lease package from Silco Fire and Security.

The package presented would include alarms, a camera system, monitoring and maintenance for a monthly fee of $292 on a 60-month term with a $1 buyout option at the end of the lease. Council favored this option because those presented by other companies did not include the same number of services or the lease option.

Mayor’s report

Mayor Laurie Green provided council with an update on applying for grant funds through the state’s Building Demolition and Site Revitalization program. Green is hoping to secure funds that will allow the village to demolish one of three fire-damaged and uninhabitable homes on Miner Street. The other two homes were demolished by the owners.

Green said the village had to legally take possession of the property and be ready to move forward with demolition before the grant funding could be sought.

Other reports to council

Street Superintendent Sam Moore will place a no parking sign on Miner Street following complaints from residents about parked vehicles obstructing visibility and access.

Moore also said the county will bring in fill dirt for the new park from another area where crews are currently working.

In zoning Nill reported a complaint about a property on Miner Street where gas cans were being left outside and building doors left open. She said a letter has been sent advising the resident to secure the building.

Another notice was delivered to a resident who has been illegally driving a riding lawn mower on village streets.
