Commissioners complete Cherry Ridge water project funding

Water is a critical part of any business or homeowner’s success, and when there isn’t enough water pressure to properly generate the needed water, it can create some difficult circumstances.
For businesses and homes along the Cherry Ridge corridor near Walnut Creek, that will no longer be an issue.
On Monday, June 24, the Holmes County commissioners passed a supplemental appropriation completing the contract project of $1,084,780.17 to the Ohio Department of Development Cherry Ridge water project.
The county served as the pass-through entity for the project, which will help bring water and sewer to businesses and homes located along the Cherry Ridge Road area between Walnut Creek and Sugarcreek.
Commissioner Joe Miller was instrumental in getting the ball rolling on the project, one that became a necessity because the area around Cherry Ridge has struggled to get attainable water for years.
“This was a really nice project,” Miller said. “It benefits Walnut Creek and everyone along that corridor. We want to thank the Township of Walnut Creek for providing them the water.”
Commissioner Dave Hall said that while everyone is not yet hooked up to the new water system, the project is nearing completion.
“Everyone that has hooked up is happy to finally be getting water and real water pressure,” Hall said. “Their own individual wells weren’t doing well.”
Miller said people with individual water wells were struggling to get enough water and water pressure, making it difficult for businesses to operate.
Hall said in an earlier commissioner meeting in late 2023 that the commissioners had worked with the department of development, partnering with the stakeholders on Cherry Ridge to get the project done, and the county decided to serve as the conduit for pass-through dollars.
Miller said a lack of water has been an issue there for a long time, and this improvement will benefit many components of the business industry such as Walnut Creek Cheese and ProVia.
