The artwork of Cleveland artist Hector Castellanos Lara will be on display in the community room at the Dover Public Library during the month of September as part of the library’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Most of Castellanos Lara’s work is inspired by the culture and people of his native Guatemala.

“It’s a glorious exhibit depicting culture and design at its best by a phenomenal artist,” said Jan Ridenour, DPL tech services specialist. “I love the brilliant colors.”

Castellanos Lara will speak at the closing reception on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m. At that time he will talk about his artwork and about the Latino art scene in Northeast Ohio.

For decades Castellanos Lara has participated in the Cleveland Museum’s Parade the Circle and the Chalk Festival. For the past three years, he has been the lead artist for the Parade the Circle event. He also organizes the annual Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) activities in November in the Gordon Square Arts District in West Cleveland. He teaches workshops including kite making, chalk drawing and sawdust carpets.

The exhibit is open during the month of September during library hours: Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Register for the speaking event at www.doverlibrary.org/events or call the library at 330-343-6123.
