The Claymont Foundation awarded teacher classroom grants in the fall totaling $37,457.88 to enhance the educational opportunities currently being provided by Claymont City Schools.

The $9,690.95 general fund grant awards are:

Amber Roberts, Fantastic Daily Five, primary school, $500; Sarah Battershell, ABC Tubs, primary school, $182.92; Heather Sulzener, leveled children books, primary school, $516.21; Amy Ehret, flexible seating, primary school, $503.83; Tiffany Haney, flexible seating, primary school, $500; Bethany Doane, flexible seating, primary school, $500; Allyson Wright, flexible seating, primary school, $500; Kristen Metzger, lap desks for 3rd Grade Adventures, elementary school, $194.70;

Lindsay Pellegrino and Alisha Mahaffey, classroom novel sets, middle school, $831.99; Lisa Maxwell, flexible seating, middle school, $500; Jill Wagner, ELA Department, The Great CMS Read, middle school, $1,000; Andrew Zimmerman, Reach Out and Touch American History, high school, $961.30; Ashley Cromer, Claymont FFA group, high school, $1,000; Heather O’Connor, Ashley Bendle and Kelsi Barnhart, flexible seating, high school, $1,000; and Amanda Thompson and Derrick Rausch, flexible seating, high school, $1,000;

The $27,760 Dave Adams grant awards for the fine and performing arts are:

John and Clara Warner, Professional Sound, k-12, $10,592; Brittany O’Hara, Molding Minds with Clay Pots, elementary school, $1,350; Rebecca Stewart and Jessica Lowdermilk, PAC field trip, Freedom Bound, intermediate school, $1,000; Miriam Scheetz, technology for art room, intermediate school, $1,000; Susan Monticelli, PAC field trip: Think Kindness, middle school, $680.93; Sarah Robinson, Kidz Keyboard Kraze Part II, middle school, $2,285; Miriam Scheetz, Multicultural Art, middle school, $2,400; Carrie Kunkle, Guerrilla Mug Assault, high school, $430; and Jim Howell, Beginning Band, high school, $8,023.

According to Jackie Triplett, committee member, “The Claymont Foundation Teacher Grant Committee was inspired by the creative and purposeful grants written by the teachers in the school district. The grants will allow for teachers to engage their students with personalized learning opportunities. The teachers were innovative with their requests for the classrooms, and the foundation is proud to support the teacher initiatives across the district.”

The Claymont Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was established to enhance the educational opportunities in the Claymont City School District.
