Child Support Awareness Month embraced in Wayne County

Child Support Awareness Month is a reminder of the importance of consistent financial support for children and the families caring for them.
Each August communities come together to recognize the role child support plays in ensuring children have access to the resources they need. In Wayne County this month is not just a time for awareness; it’s an opportunity for education, advocacy and community engagement.
“We recognize that parents sometimes face barriers to meeting their financial obligations, and some require services and assistance to overcome those barriers,” commissioner Dave McMillen read from a proclamation during a recent commissioners meeting. “Providing effective child support services requires the commitment, leadership and collaborative efforts of our courts, government agencies, parents and legislators.”
Child support is designed to meet the ongoing needs of children after parents separate or divorce. It helps cover essential expenses including food, clothing, education and medical care. By providing a steady stream of financial resources, child support enables custodial parents to create a nurturing environment where children can flourish emotionally and academically.
“We recognize and commend the efforts of those parents who are committed to fulfilling their moral, financial and legal obligation to provide this support,” McMillen said.
Navigating the world of child support can often feel overwhelming. Fortunately, numerous resources are available for families in Wayne County that can provide the assistance needed to ensure children’s well-being and financial security.
The Wayne County Child Support Enforcement Agency promotes family self-sufficiency and child well-being. It assists in obtaining financial and medical support for children by establishing paternity and support obligations, enforcing those obligations, and locating parents.
These resources help custodial parents and support noncustodial parents in fulfilling their obligations and maintaining healthy relationships with their children.
