The fourth annual Old Fashioned Christmas in Brewster will be held Nov. 30 from 5-8 p.m.

The Fairless High School Silver Wings will provide music from 6-6:15 p.m., followed by a prayer from Father Kevin Peters, Brewster Holy Family Parish, at 6:20 p.m. The tree lighting will be held at 6:25 p.m., and Santa Claus will arrive at 6:30 p.m. on a fire truck. Each year a special individual is asked to light the tree. This year the honor was given to Judy Witting Maybaugh of Brewster. All festivities will be held on Wabash Avenue.

“The first year of the event was just a tree lighting ceremony. Just as we started, large snowflakes began to fall. It was beautiful. The event just grew from there. The tree is always donated,” Mayor Charles Hawk said.

Hawk said there will be a live nativity where animals will be permitted to be petted. Santa Claus will move to the Community Center at 76 E. Main St., where he will greet the children and distribute goodie bags. There also will be crafts and face painting for the children.

Connie Schumaker, a committee member, said letters to Santa Claus can be dropped off at 225 Wabash Ave. before Dec. 20 if an answer is requested. She likes the Christmas spirit to bring the community together and seeing the children’s faces.

“The community will be able to obtain a passport with different locations listed where they will receive a stamp if they visit that particular location. Once the passport is completed with all the stamps, individuals can register for door prizes. At least 30 prizes will be awarded, and only one entry per family is permitted. They do not need to be present to win. The drawing will be held at 8 p.m.,” Hawk said. “We begin planning this event each year in March. I am proud of my community and want to invite others to visit our village. What I want is the best for Brewster.”

“We love to be able to open the Wandle House and Brewster-Sugarcreek Historical Society to visitors,” said Jennifer Limbert, a committee member. “A conductor will be distributing candy at the caboose located at the Wandle House, and the site offers a great photo opportunity.”

A craft show also will be held at the Wandle House and the Station Restaurant, located at 45 Wabash Ave. SW, open from 4-8 p.m. with a special menu.

“The event brings the community together for the beginning of the holiday season. We are grateful for all the vendors,” said Nancy Hawk, a committee member.

There will be at least 10 food locations outside the Brewster IGA located on Wabash Avenue. Fairless Elementary students will hang ornaments on the tree. The Consumer National Bank is collecting food for the food bank, and a treat will be given to all who contribute. The Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad offices are collecting toys for children, and a little roaming railroad will offer free rides. Carolers will provide music throughout the village. Sojourn Café will provide beverages from 5-8 p.m., and Tattered and Worn will provide home décor from 3-8 p.m. All are located on Wabash Avenue.
