The accolades for Holmes County and its celebration of its 200th anniversary continue to roll in.

Holmes County’s honoring of its bicentennial this year was recognized recently by an important Ohio organization.

Cheryl Subler and John Leutz, director and assistant director of County Commissioner’s Association of Ohio, stopped by during the weekly meeting of the Holmes County Board of Commissioners on Monday, May 13 to make a presentation honoring Holmes County for its 200th anniversary.

“It is our pleasure to help all of you and the residents of Holmes County celebrate your 200th year of formation of Holmes County,” Subler said to the commissioners while presenting them with a gold-framed photograph of the Holmes County Courthouse. “We wanted to share this with you, this nice recognition award.”

Commissioner Dave Hall said the award was timely because the commissioners had just prior to the presentation doled out the Holmes County Bed Tax Grant, with a significant amount of those dollars dedicated to the bicentennial celebration.

The celebration was complete with the attendance of Holmes County Bicentennial Celebration Committee chairperson Melissa Patrick on hand.

“What a great opportunity for the residents to celebrate and appreciate everything the county government has done and the county as a whole,” Subler said. “Two-hundred years, that’s pretty amazing.”

Subler went on to talk about the important role Holmes County plays as a leader of counties in Ohio and the people who make it a great place to live and work and noted working and serving the people of Ohio and its county commissioners through the CCAO is special.

“It’s an honor to work for such great people and such a dynamic organization,” Subler said.

“Thank you so much,” Hall said. “We have so many big things happening this year. We have a lot of countywide events that are going to happen.”

Hall said the photograph will be placed in the Holmes County Commissioner’s Library.

Commissioner Joe Miller added his thanks and praised both Subler and Leutz for the job they do heading up the CCAO, praising Subler for always being accessible.

“They’ve been there combined for about 100 years,” Miller said.

Hall agreed. “The commissioner’s association is vital in any process moving forward if it’s funding or a policy. This association is such a respected association in Columbus and all over the state of Ohio.”
