Carson Pritt was ushered around Knights Stadium at West Holmes High School courtesy of a gator and walked across midfield arm in arm with escort Keaton Macaulay as part of the 2018 West Holmes High School homecoming ceremony that took place on a rainy Friday evening, Sept. 21.

Pritt had told herself she was going to go and soak in the atmosphere and enjoy the pomp and circumstance of the evening, and she had given little thought to what it might be like to actually be tabbed as the newest Knights queen. So when her name was called as this year’s homecoming queen, she said she was shocked.

“This was totally unexpected,” Pritt said of her crowning achievement. “I just wanted to come and enjoy the moment and the experience, but I never expected to win. I was really nervous.”

Four senior couples walked across midfield at the stadium as part of the ceremony. In addition to Pritt and Macaulay, Taylor Dye was escorted by Kaden Patterson, Erin Norman by Grady Hay and Marisa Miller, representing the Ashland County West Holmes Career Center, by Ryan O’Donnell.

The junior class was represented by Jordyn Burnison and escort Carter Haun, the sophomore class by Jessie Keen with escort Alec Landon and the freshman class by Kaili Maltarich with escort Jonathan Kandel.

Pritt received her flowers and tiara from 2017 queen Taylor Burnison. The 2018 princess and prince were Annabelle Snyder and Reece Wengerd.

The new reigning queen said college is in her future, although she hasn’t made a commitment to any particular school. She also said her field of study is wide open, and she will explore options like childcare specialist and dentistry.

As for her time at West Holmes, she said one of her favorite parts of being a West Holmes Knight is something she wasn’t participating in on this night because of the homecoming festivities.

“I love being a part of the marching band,” Pritt said, even as the marching band played in the background following the ceremony. “That has been such a special part of my time at West Holmes. It is an incredible program, and Mr. Dodd is amazing, and I have built so many wonderful friendships through the band. I really feel blessed to be part of such an awesome school, and I am honored to be able to represent the school as the homecoming queen.”
