The Tuscarawas Valley Board of Education transferred two administrators to different positions during the March 11 meeting. Andrea Clements was transferred from elementary principal to director of curriculum instruction and federal programs and Corey Street from primary principal to elementary principal. Both positions become effective Aug. 1.

The board approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the Sandy Township Board of Trustees to place a tornado siren on the premises of the school district. The trustees agreed to maintain the ongoing operation of the tornado siren.

“One of the district goals is to provide a safe and positive environment for our students and staff focused on students’ education success,” Board President Dick Gooding said. “Safety is always first for the students.”

The board also did the following:

—Accepted donations/grants of $2,000 from Kurtis Wolf for the art department; $497 from Edison Local School District Board of Education, $534 from Buckeye Career Center, $100 from Colonel Crawford Lions and $500 from Community Business Association, all miscellaneous; $250 from Ohio Billing for personal hygiene items; and $56.74 from Sparta Steel and Equipment Corp. for steel products for athletes.

—Passed a resolution to participate and authorize the Southwestern Ohio Education Purchasing Council and OME_RESA to advertise and receive bids to purchase a school bus.

—Issued one-year supplemental contracts to certified employees Kaylene Hoy and Kayla Kopp, middle school track, and Sarah Schoeppner and Terry Sites, both sixth-grade camp.

—Granted one-year supplemental coaching contracts to contracted employees Donnie Jones and Mitch Woodhall, assistant baseball, and Logan Ladrach, assistant track, all volunteers; Staci Martin, assistant softball; and Owen Poland, assistant baseball.

—Heard a mid-year district review of data by Andrea Clements and Marina Colombo. They reported how elementary and high school students are progressing. They agreed to provide suggestions to parents to have students reading in the summer.

—Accepted the resignations of Julie Hoagland, transportation and food services administrative assistant, for retirement, effective July 1, and Beth Dyko, bus driver, effective June 6.

—Rescinded the employment of Cory Janson and Arien Wise, supplemental contracts for sixth-grade camp, approved at the Feb. 12 meeting.

—Restored the position for Andrew Janson, elementary intervention specialist, effective Aug. 26.

Other information

Recognized Student of the Month recipients Sophia Shaw, high school; Jala Barnett, fine arts; Sally Ray, athlete; Matthew Mast, 11th grade; Josie Digman, 10th grade; Nicolas Myers, ninth grade; Candance Burky, eighth grade; and Parker Lang, seventh grade.

The high school concert band earned four superiors in district competition and will perform at the state level in April.

Scott Pennell, transportation, building and grounds supervisor, thanked the community and school district for helping him during his recovery from a broken leg.

Board member Sally Green rode the bus driven by Superintendent Derek Varansky. Green said it was an enlightening experience.

The board collected and donated $3,700 to the Rainbow Connection.

An open house will be held at the Trojan Primary School on March 27 from 5-6:30 p.m.

A special meeting to approve a guaranteed maximum price for the abatement and demolition of old facilities will be held later this month. The district will advertise the date and time once it is confirmed.

The next meeting will be held April 8 at 6 p.m. in the Elementary Trojan Center at 2632 Tusky Valley Road in Zoarville.
