BCC students advance to state
A number of Buckeye Career Center students are advancing to their respective career-technical student organization’s state competition in the coming weeks. All regional competitions were held remotely.
Business Professionals of America qualifiers who will compete virtually throughout March include Paige Hostetler (Garaway) and Zane Miller (Garaway) in Fundamental Accounting; Bobby Palmer (Garaway) and Heinrich Asbury (Garaway) in Payroll Accounting; Winston Lahm (Garaway) and Brityn Kirkpatrick (Claymont) in Personal Finance Management; Robert Steed (New Philadelphia) and Matthew Rogers (Claymont) in Computer Network Technology; Stephen Ross (QDA) and Samuel Atkinson (Garaway) in PC Servicing and Troubleshooting; Taylor Day (Indian Valley) in Network Administration Using Cisco; the team of David Johnson (Indian Valley), Xavier Best (Dover) and Kaden Hostetler (Indian Valley) in Network Design Team;

HOSA Future Health Professionals members qualifying for the state competition to be held virtually April 12-15 include first-place recipients Brynnle Hill (New Philadelphia) and Kaylee Taralla (New Philadelphia) in Community Awareness, Faith Lemay (Garaway) in Epidemiology, Gabrielle Kellar (Claymont) in Job Seeking Skills, Mackenzie Grasselli (Dover) in Medical Assisting, Myra Davis (Carrollton) in Medical Spelling, Chloe Hershberger (Garaway) in Nutrition, Cassidy Turney (New Philadelphia) in Pharmacy Science, and Connor Harlan (Claymont) in Sports Medicine.
Students achieving second place include Janele Polett (Claymont) in Interviewing Skills and Annabelle Lipinski (New Philadelphia) in Medical Spelling.
Third-place recipients include Mackenzie Guy (Claymont) in Healthy Lifestyle and Kylie Ferguson (Conotton Valley) in Life Support Skills.
Fourth-place students include Victoria Frazee (Carrollton) in Dental Terminology, Paige Hicks (Claymont) in Epidemiology, Colette Brown (Conotton Valley) in Medical Reading, Haley Gump (New Philadelphia) in Medical Spelling, Brooklyn Frey (Garaway) in Researched Persuasive Writing and Speaking, and Brandy Durbin (Newcomerstown) in Research Poster.
SkillsUSA members who have qualified for the state SkillsUSA competition to be held virtually and in person throughout the months of March and April include gold medal winners Cooper Amelung (Tusky Valley) in Electrical Construction Wiring, Kole Kaltenbaugh (Indian Valley) in Technical Drafting, Spencer Miday (Garaway) in Welding and Logan Wallace (New Philadelphia) in Industrial Motor Control.
Silver medal winners include the construction team of Payton Curley (Dover), Devon Harold (Newcomerstown), Shelby Spencer (Glenoak) and Jackson Stogsdill (New Philadelphia) in TeamWorks; Bryan McClure (Tusky Valley) in Electrical Construction Wiring; Mason Stackhouse (Carrollton) in Automotive Refinishing Technology; Olivia Swigert (Claymont) in Advertising Design; Kylee Webb (Claymont) in Esthetics with model Hannah Snyder (Claymont); and Anatoli Yaromich (home-schooled) in Collision Repair Technology.
Bronze winners include Hermalinda Abarca (Claymont) in Esthetics with model Chloe Weisen (Tusky Valley) and Haylee Heavilin (Claymont) in Electrical Construction Wiring.
Other state competitors include Jakyha Burdette (Claymont) in T-Shirt Design, Ryan Crawford (Ridgewood) in Diesel Equipment Technology, Hayden Dixon (Claymont) in Robotics, Cole Hockenberry (Dover) in Motorcycle, Alan Raymundo (Dover) in Pin Design and Skye Wissman (Indian Valley) in Robotics.
In addition, Project Lead the Way/Engineering students also recently competed in the 2021 Tuscarawas Valley Ohio International Bridge Building Regional Contest. Sky Wissman (Indian Valley) earned second place while Taylor Day (Indian Valley) placed 10th.
Nearly 200 students from nine schools submitted 253 bridge projects for the competition. The top-three winners were offered Kent State University scholarships while Allied Machine and Steve Stokey gave cash prizes to the top-10 winners. No international competition will be held this year.
