Auditions to be held for Titanic mystery thriller

The Little Theatre of Tuscarawas County will hold auditions for a Titanic mystery thriller, “Scotland Road,” on Sunday and Monday, Nov. 5 and 6 at 7 p.m. at the theater. Registration will be at 6:30 p.m. The performance dates for the regional premier production are Jan. 4-7 and 11-14, with rehearsals beginning in November.
Don Irven, veteran director, said he hopes to cast four actors: a mature male in his 50s, a mature female in her 50s, a female in her late 20s to early 30s and a mature female capable of playing 80s to 90s.
“The young woman must be able to speak a European dialect,” Irven said. “Readings will be from the script.”
“Scotland Road” by Jeffrey Hatcher is a suspense mystery about greed, obsession and the Titanic. Inspired by an actual tabloid headline seen by the playwright, the mystery begins to unravel when a fishing trawler picks up a young woman floating on an iceberg off the coast of Iceland.
When rescued, she can only whisper one word, “Titanic.” Cold, hungry and dressed in 19th century clothing, her response suggests the supernatural feeling that someone or something from the legendary disaster has surfaced from its watery grave.
John, a man obsessed with the century-old tragedy, brings this woman and her caretaker to an undisclosed observation room. To save his own sanity, he has just six days to expose the elaborate hoax this mysterious woman has concocted — or has she?
Finally, the last living survivor from the Titanic is brought forth to test her. As time runs out, this tale becomes an intense cat and mouse thriller full of twists and turns, as well as a detailed journey of history, artifacts and lost souls.
Irven’s production staff includes Jack Thomas, assistant director; Kenn Holmes, scenic design; Tom Reed, lighting design; Matt Spies and Joe Compton, sound and video design; Elizabeth Thomakos, costumes; Autumn Stennett, production stage manager; Pam Douglas, props; Debi DeVore, hair and wig design; Doug Kopp, producer; Kait Gallagher-Wilsterman, social media; and Lee Elliott, publicity.
“Scotland Road” is sponsored by Jed, Machelle and Megan Miller.
