At meeting, East Holmes BOE approves multiple contracts

The East Holmes Local Schools Board of Education met for a regular meeting on May 17 at the East Holmes Central Office.

The board did the following during the meeting:

—Recognized the following Hiland WKLM Student of the Week recipients: Caitlin Conn, April 29 through May 3; Noah Troyer, May 6-10; and Ashley Mullet, May 13-17.

—Approved a Then & Now Certificate for Pioneer Trails for $6,565 for Fund 200920A.

—Accepted the following donations: $2,500 from Darling Ingredients to go toward negative school lunch balances, Sherri Hummel’s substitute teaching wages for the 2023-24 school year and after-prom donations.

—Approved the following resolutions: a contract awarded to MEB Systems for roof repair at Chestnut Ridge Elementary School and a contract awarded to MEB Systems for roof repair at Berlin Elementary School.

—Approved the purchase of the math curriculum for seventh grade through eighth grade from Imagine Learning.

—Approved the purchase of K-8 math curriculum from Curriculum Associates.

—Approved a renewal agreement with Project School Nutrition to provide cafeteria consulting services for the 2024-25 school year, effective July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025.

—Approved the East Holmes meal charge policy and meal prices policy for the 2024-25 school year.

—Accepted the following resignations, effective at the end of the 2023-24 contractual school year: Marjorie Abundo, intervention specialist at Berlin; Joy Campbell, kindergarten at Chestnut Ridge; Bert Jones, social studies at Hiland; and Mikayla Poole, general teacher at Hiland.

—Authorized the board president to sign a separation agreement with Bert Jones.

—Approved the following personnel for the summer custodian positions, eight hours per day, five days per week, for nine weeks, effective June 3: Grady Miller, April Rose and James Whitman.

—Approved state test translation services by Ganna (Anya) Schlegel for $1,080 for work performed during the 2023-24 school year.

—Approved a one-year limited contract for the 2024-25 school year to new certified personnel Jessica Reese, fourth grade at Berlin, pending completion of all licensure requirements.

—Approved the transfer of Mark Hamsher from science/biology teacher at Hiland to dean of students at Hiland for the 2024-25 contractual school year.

—Approved the following placement on the certified salary schedule, effective at the beginning of the 2024-25 contractual school year: Shelly Mathias to Masters+20.

—Approved administrative three-year limited contract renewals, expiring 2027, for Darren Blochlinger and Darrell Haven.

—Approved one-year certified limited contract renewals, expiring 2025, for Amber Bane, Roche Harmon, Blaine Hoxworth, Zachary Rearick, Kayla Schlabach, Sarah Sommers, Genesis Swartzentruber, Jennifer Weber and Carrie Wigton.

—Approved two-year certified limited contract renewals, expiring 2026, for Julie Baer, Joy Campbell, Ryan Freeman, Tenieka Hummel, Miranda McCullough, Mikayla Poole, Mallory Rearick and Rachel VanDonge.

—Approved three-year certified limited contract renewals, expiring 2027, for Megan Amos, Adrianne Bryk, Kristine Flinner, Christopher Franks, Korie Haswell, Marlea Hershberger-Leinbach, Stephanie McGookey and Shannon Troyer.

—Approved certified continuing contract renewals for Janet Hetrick, Carly Mayle and Jason Schag.

—Approved two-year classified limited contract renewals, expiring 2026, for Amanda Alarcon, Carolyn Barkman, Olivia Blosser, Jewell Bontrager, R. Christine Feikert, Christine Finley, Zachary Gingerich, John Graber, Jennifer Graham, Cody Herzig, Kandi Hipp, Liza Holcomb, Sarah Holcomb, Rita Hummel, Heather Lehman, Crystal Lovell, Cassandra Mast, Victoria McDowell, Abigail Miller, Brenda Miller, April Rose, Amy Rowe, Lelia Russell, Danielle Weaver, Ella Weaver, Michael Wells, Jason Whitman, Cassaundra Yackey, Brooke Yoder, Jonas Yoder and Pamela Yoder.

—Approved a one-year limited contract for the 2024-25 school year for the following classified personnel, pending completion of all requirements: Kevin Duff, assistant mechanic, up to 20 hours per week as needed, and Isabella Wilbur, aide (TESOL) for the district, going from part-time (hourly) to full-time.

—Approved supplemental positions for the 2024-25 school year for Don Blanchard, junior high golf coach, and Garret Shoup, high school varsity assistant golf coach.

—Approved a three-year certified limited contract renewal, expiring 2027, for Courtney Miller in a separate motion.

—Approved Larry Leckrone, head custodian at Flat Ridge/Wise, as new classified personnel for the 2023-24 school year, effective June 12, and a one-year classified limited contract for the 2024-25 school year, pending completion of all requirements.

The next board meeting is scheduled for June 21 at the new East Holmes Central Office, 4535 Township Road 367, Millersburg.
