The Tuscarawas Philharmonic will welcome the Alloy Horn Quartet for an evening of orchestra and band music in a concert titled “Horns A-Plenty.” The performance is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on April 6 at the Kent State Tuscarawas Performing Arts Center.

The Alloy Horn Quartet is a Chicago-based ensemble, and its members can be found on Chicago’s classical music freelance scene and performing with the region’s top orchestras including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Chicago Philharmonic, Millar Brass Ensemble, Milwaukee Ballet, Elgin Symphony, Wisconsin Philharmonic, Arkansas Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Omaha Symphony and New Mexico Symphony.

They also have performed with Peter Gabriel, Josh Groban, Video Games Live, Il Volo, Mannheim Steamroller, Boston Brass and others. Members include Liz Deitemyer, Anna Jacobson, Kelly Langenberg and Dana Sherman. Langenberg, originally from New Philadelphia, first began horn lessons with Steven Stroup, principal horn player of the Tuscarawas Philharmonic.

The Tuscarawas Philharmonic will perform Engelbert Humperdinck’s “Hansel and Gretel Overture” and Camille Saint-Saëns’ “Bacchanale from Samson and Delilah.” With the Alloy ensemble, they also will perform Robert Schumann’s “Concertpiece for Four Horns and Orchestra.”

Also on the program is the annual High School Honors Band, an ensemble comprised of select students from area high schools. This year’s band is record-breaking with nearly 80 students participating. The schools they represent include Canton South, Claymont, Dover, Fairless, Indian Valley, New Philadelphia, Newcomerstown, Sandy Valley, Strasburg, Tusky Valley and Union Local high schools.

The honors band, joined by the wind section of the orchestra, will perform band repertoire like “Waltz for Horns,” a piece for band and horn quartet by Hiroki Takahaski.

The philharmonic will be under the direction of guest conductor Matthew Jenkins Jaroszewicz for April 6. Jaroszewicz is assistant conductor of the Canton Symphony Orchestra and music director of the Canton Youth Symphony. He also is co-founder and artistic director of Apotheosis Opera in New York City, with whom he has conducted fully staged productions of Wagner’s “Tannhauser,” Puccini’s “La Fanciulla del West” and Strauss’ “Capriccio.”

On the concert podium, he has conducted the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Litha Symphony Orchestra and Mannes Orchestra, along with numerous ensembles he has assembled himself. He is stepping in while Eric Benjamin is traveling.

Tickets are available at www.TuscarawasPhilharmonic.org or by calling the Performing Arts Center box office at 330-308-6400. Tickets range from $24-$36 with student and senior discounts available.
