In some ways all roads lead to Mount Eaton, at least in Wayne County terms. And certainly most roads, if not quite all of them.

State Routes 94 and 241 and U.S. Route 250 converge in the extreme southeastern corner of Wayne County, with Stark, Holmes and Tuscarawas counties all within a short buggy ride. In other words Mount Eaton is accessible.

The hope is for large numbers to traverse the various routes into Mount Eaton to check things out June 7-8 when the village will host the annual Mount Eaton Days. It’s not the biggest bash on the calendar, but it’s free and growing.

“The thing we have new for this year is there’s going to be a vendors show at the New Leaf community building,” said John Miller of Mount Eaton Hardware, event spokesman for Mount Eaton Days. “We have about 15 (vendors) signed up so far. It’s just another thing to try to bring some more people to town.”

That’s where those roads come in handy. With a ton of fairs, festivals and other fiestas going on throughout the region and state as spring stretches into summer, Miller said a few more attractions could be the way to get people headed to Mount Eaton. Or with the countryside providing some of the more scenic drives in the region, maybe people could just happen upon the two-day event.

Once they get there, Miller promised they won’t be disappointed.

“There’s pretty much something there for everybody,” he said. “It’s a very special event for a small town. We’ve been doing it for 30 years. It’s for everybody, and it gives a chance for the businesses in town to sell their products.”

Not just businesses either. As part of Mount Eaton Days, yard sales will be held across the area June 7-8. A full list and map of sales will be available uptown at various locations.

Other activities include volleyball tournaments, to be held behind the school, and there will be the vendors who have signed up to be at the New Leaf Center on both days. That number could increase, Miller said.

On Friday a benefit auction will be held for local individuals in need. Culinary treats will be available from Uptown Goodies and Lerch’s Donuts, and there will be a chicken barbecue dinner each night and ice cream available both days.

Merchants’ stores in and around Mt. Eaton will feature bargains for those who stop in. Hours and bargains vary by store.
