New Lake Township trustee takes office

Lake Township has a new trustee, elected in the Nov. 4 general election. Sue Grabowski replaces Steven Miller, who resigned on Oct. 31 because he and his wife had sold their home and were planning to move out of the township. Trustee Grabowski took office at the Nov. 24 board meeting.
In other business, the board elected Trustee John Arnold as board vice president, effective immediately, also replacing Steven Miller.
In cooperation with a request from the Stark County engineer, the board agreed to reduce the load limits for vehicles on certain roads to 25 percent of the legal limits for the period Jan. 1, 2026, through May 1, 2026. The list will be filed with the engineer’s office for submission to the Stark County commissioners. Signs will be posted on those roads, which include William Penn Ave. NW, Lake O’Pines St. NW, Brumbaugh St. NW, Stonebridge Ave. NW, Wright Road NW, Mogadore Ave. NW, Market Ave. North, Lake St. NW, Gans Ave. NW, Tully Ave., Nimishillen Church St. NW, Mt. Pleasant St. NW, Rolling Hills Ave. NW, Midway St. NW, Hoover Ave. NW, Boston Ave. NW, Andrews St. NW, Wolf Ave. NW and Fromes Ave. NW.
Trustees agreed to purchase a 2026 pickup truck for the Road Department from Schoner Chevrolet for $60,282. They agreed to sell the Road Department’s 2018 pickup truck to the Lake Local School District for $22,000. They agreed to purchase a multi-factor authentication license for the Uniontown Police Department’s mobile data terminals from iLincs Corp. for a yearly fee of $741, with the understanding that the fee may be subject to change.
The board authorized and executed the renewal of the agreement with UniFirst Rental Service for the administrative offices.
In discussion of a resolution of necessity for a 3.0-mill fire levy, trustees agreed to wait for advice from the township’s legal counsel.
A resident of another township addressed the board with a complaint that his dog had been bitten by another dog at the Hartville Flea Market, and asked the township to order the property owners to prohibit dogs there. Trustees explained that they have no legal authority to do that, but said they would speak with their legal counsel about the issue.
The board approved total expenditures of $244,385.66. They said most of that amount was for asphalt and insurance.
The Board of Zoning Appeals will hold a public hearing on Thursday, Dec. 18, at 7 p.m. at the township hall.

The next regular meeting of the Board of Lake Township Trustees will be held Monday, Dec. 8, at 5 p.m. at the Township Hall, 12360 Market Ave. North. All meetings are open to the public by way of live-streaming.
