At the Sept. 8 meeting of Lake Township trustees, Uniontown Police Chief Michael Batchik read a letter of commendation for four officers for their work in locating a missing resident who had been taken out of state. The letter will be placed in the personnel files of Officer Dylan Soisson, Officer Edgar Beverage, Officer Brian Marinchek and Officer Michael Arena.

In other business, board Vice President Steven Miller reported that the township has filed a lawsuit in the case of a property on Carl Street where a nuisance exists because of weeds that have not been removed. “It’s not getting any better,” he said. The trial date is Sept. 22.

Trustees authorized the solicitation of applications for employment for the office of captain in the Uniontown Police Department. They agreed to pay $3,900 to Pauli Electric Inc. for labor and material to upgrade lighting at the police facility, and $3,259.90 to Media 144 Security Solutions to install radio speakers throughout the building.

The board also approved the purchase of a 2025 Chevrolet 3500 van for the Road Department from Schoner Chevrolet for $43,651.40.

Following discussion of plans for the equipment storage building for the Road Department, trustees agreed the matter will remain under review.

The board rescinded its recent resolution for a variance for temporary cul-de-sacs on dead-end streets in the Addison Lakes Properties plans. Two residents addressed the board about the stub streets.

Trustees scheduled trick-or-treat for Sunday, Oct. 26, from 3 to 5 p.m., as recommended by the Stark County commissioners.

Brett Yeagley addressed the board to introduce himself as the new superintendent of Lake Local Schools.

The Board of Zoning Appeals was scheduled to hold a hearing Thursday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m. at the township hall.

Trustees authorized expenditures in the amount of $120,076.10.

After the business meeting, the trustees and the fiscal officer recessed to executive session for a personnel matter. No action was taken.

The meeting was streamed on Facebook Live, though it was open to in-person public access. The video may be seen on the township Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/LakeTownshipStarkCountyOhio/). Although there is no “public speaks” option through the Facebook Live streaming, anyone watching who has questions may submit them by email to the township office at info@laketwpstarkco.com.

The next regular meeting of the Board of Lake Township Trustees will be held Monday, Sept. 22, at 5 p.m. at the township hall, 12360 Market Ave. N. All meetings are open to the public by way of live streaming.
