Evening in the Village will be Dec. 7
Hartville prepares for annual holiday celebration with Santa’s arrival, tree lighting, music, contests and downtown activities
The annual Evening in the Village event will be held in downtown Hartville on Sunday, Dec. 7. Mayor Cynthia Billings reminded council at its Nov. 24 meeting of the various activities planned, beginning with Santa Claus arriving on a fire truck, followed by lighting the village Christmas tree. Shops will be open, and local choirs and musicians will perform. There will be a cookie contest, a tree and basket silent auction, wagon rides, a coloring contest and other activities for children.
Street Commissioner Anthony Nichols presented his report.
Village Engineer Samer Awadallah presented his report. Council voted to authorize work on the 2026 paving program.
In other business, council voted to authorize the mayor to enter into an agreement with the Stark Soil and Water Conservation District.
Council passed several items of legislation by emergency, including a resolution authorizing the mayor to prepare and execute an application for Safe Routes to School funds, and an ordinance amending annual appropriations for current expenses and other expenditures for the fiscal year ending Dec. 31, 2025.
Council scheduled a Finance Committee meeting for Dec. 1 at 5 p.m. to discuss budgets. The Planning Commission will meet the same evening at 6 p.m. to review the Danbury Glen Estates subdivision. Council agreed to schedule a Personnel Committee meeting at the next council meeting to educate the two newly elected members.
A representative of the Lake Legacy Baseball Foundation addressed council with a request for donations.
Councilman Tim Hayden was absent.
The next regular meeting of Hartville Village Council will be held in person Monday, Dec. 8, at 6:30 p.m. at Village Hall, 202 West Maple St. The meeting will also be live-streamed on Facebook. Meetings may be viewed on the Videos page of the village Facebook page.
