The dedication of a sculpture honoring William Powell will take place Thursday, Nov. 16, 4 p.m., on the grounds of Minerva Public Library.

The sculpture was commissioned by Minerva Arts Council with the cooperation of the Powell family and created by Canton artist Patrick Buckohr.

Powell, a Minerva High School graduate, was a businessman, entrepreneur, veteran and pioneering golf course owner who designed Clearview Golf Club, the first integrated golf course. He was also the first African American to construct and own a professional golf course in the United States.

The public is invited to attend, and Minerva Public Library is located at 677 Lynnwood Dr.
