Wooster Community Hospital held its annual awards banquet Thursday, June 12 at the Thunderhead Pines venue, with dinner catered by Omahoma Bob’s Barbeque.
Scott Boyes, WCH CEO/president, welcomed attendees and introduced members of the hospital’s board of directors. He also provided an update on the construction of the new Patient Access Emergency Center, which is scheduled for completion in early 2026.
The evening celebrated recipients of both the WCH Auxiliary and Helen Garvin scholarship awards. Families of the award winners were present for the recognition.
The winners of the WCH Auxiliary Scholarships, a one-time award of $1,500, included Aleah Daugherty, Orrville High School; Molly Green, Central Christian High School; Kaitlyn Graves, Norwayne High School; and Kaydance Moran, Triway High School.
The recipients of the Helen Garvin Scholarship included Skylar Henry, Third Year Award, and Laney Hunsberger, Fourth and Final Year Award.
The scholarship renewals are contingent on recipients maintaining acceptable grades and submitting personal essays that reflect their growth throughout the year.
In addition to scholarships, the hospital also recognized the service of its volunteers. This year 43 volunteers and 19 prayer partners received pins and service bars for their contributions. Boyes expressed gratitude for their time and commitment to the hospital.
Volunteer coordinator Carla Redick raises funds for the WCH Auxiliary through several activities including flower sales, a Christmas cookie sale, golf outings, a clay shooting event, the annual Lighting of the Trees and Decorate a Tree events, and WCHA gift shop sales. Proceeds from these initiatives help purchase new transport vans for free medical transportation for patients, furniture and essential items for the hospital.
