Medina County Job and Family Services will host its first “Shredding for Santa” event Nov. 1, combining a free community shred day with a holiday gift collection for children in foster care.
The event runs from 9 a.m. to noon in the MCJFS parking lot, 232 Northland Drive. Residents are invited to bring personal documents for secure, on-site shredding at no cost.
“This is a great way to clear out clutter and protect your confidential information while also helping local kids have a brighter holiday,” said Layne Hedden, foster parent recruiter and peer supporter with Medina County JFS.
Donations of new, unwrapped toys for children ages 0 to 18 will be accepted at the event. Organizers are also collecting gift cards and cash contributions to purchase holiday gifts for foster youth.
The shred day replaces the annual toy drive Medina County JFS has hosted in recent years. By pairing the two efforts, organizers hope to both serve families’ practical needs and continue community support for children in foster care.
