A stuffed animal mouse will “spread the plague” among villagers at Highland Library’s Renaissance Faire May 9, where participants can be “cured” with a magic potion made of hand sanitizer and glitter.

Step back in time and into a world of fantasy at Highland Library’s first Renaissance Faire, set for Saturday, May 9, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

The library will transform into a medieval village filled with interactive activities and entertainment for families. Nate the Great will create balloon swords and crowns for young knights and royalty, while Enchantaroo face painting will turn visitors into dragons, unicorns and other mythical creatures. The Emerald Glades LARPing Group of Brunswick will perform three shows throughout the day.

Visitors can also make their own bookmark with a leatherworker and enjoy live music from a minstrel playing the lute.

In the children’s area, kids can test their courage and strength with activities including pool noodle jousting, a stepping-stone challenge, archery and a Princess and the Pea game. Snacks will include ginger ale, popcorn and meat sticks.

Throughout the event, children can collect and spend chocolate coins around the “kingdom,” and even take part in a playful “plague” game, complete with a glittery “healing potion.”

No registration is required for this free event.
