Record-setting day for Mount Vernon track teams

Boys set five records, girls four in winning Lakewood Relays

The Mount Vernon track teams’ depth came through this past weekend as both the boys and girls teams captured titles at the Lakewood Relays.

The boys captured four events, setting five school records in the process, to score 87 points and win the team title.

The sprint medley team of Jamison Oakes (100), Mason Richards (100), Ben Fitzpatrick (200) and Brady Mills (400) won a time of 1:35.04. The distance medley team of Owen Petrie (1,200), Mills (400), Jonah Eggert (800) and Calvin Heithaus (1,600) also set a record in 11:02.35.

The two-man teams in long jump and shot put also set school records. The long jump team of Fitzpatrick (22-6) and Darrin Monahan (18-11.25) won, as did the shot put team of Logan Autherson (45-11) and Collin Hoffman (42-0.5).

MV had four second-place finishes as well. The 4x800 team of Landon Barber, Joseph Butts, Noah Corrigan and Theo Miller finished second in 8:55.69, as did the 4x100 team of Oakes, Fitzpatrick, Mills and Richards, which set a school record in 43.49. The 4x1600 relay team of Petrie, Kyler Beauchamp, Jonan Eggert and Heithaus finished in 19:25.34.

Also the discus team of Hoffman (108-10) and Jake Hubbard (132-11) finished second.

The girls team also won four events and scored 92.5 points to beat the other 11 schools.

The 4x1600 relay team of Amelia Martin, Callie Peugh, Megan Packard and Lucy Rush won in a time of 23:59.9. The 4x100 relay team of Julie Boyd, Nadia Nougi, Savannah Rose and Danaisa Best had a season best time of 50.94 to win. The distance medley team of Martin (1,200), Kinsley Firebaugh (400, Packard (800) and Rush (1,600) also won in 13:07.01.

Kennedy Howard set a new school record in the pole vault, leaping 13-foot-3. Howard’s jump was the second best in the state this year and eighth best in the nation. That, along with teammate Elizabeth Lebold’s leap of 8-0, helped the Jackets win that event, as well.

MV also had several second-place finishes. The shuttle hurdles team of Cora Rickett, Charlotte Smith, Mahayley Laverick and Rose finished in 1:11.75; the sprint medley team of Boyd (100), Best (100), Nougi (200) and Firebaugh (400) finished in 1:55.43; and the 4x200 relay team of Ella Rickett, Riley Kerns, Rose and Best finished in 1:52.86.

The Jackets also finished second in the long jump with Nougi jump 15-4.5 and Kerns leaping 13-1.5; and second in the shot put with Khloe Bradley tossing it 38-0 and Madeline Springer 26-5.5.
