West Holmes board approves financial reports

Board meeting at Nashville Elementary covers policy updates, personnel changes and new business initiatives

An update on the West Holmes Local Schools K-5 building project was given during the March 16 Board of Education meeting at Nashville Elementary.

The West Holmes Local Schools Board of Education approved a series of financial reports, policy updates and personnel actions during its regular meeting held March 16 at Nashville Elementary.

The board approved the agenda and minutes from the previous regular meeting.

In financial matters, the board approved the month-end reconciliation and investments as of Feb. 28, as well as the financial report by fund of expenditures and unencumbered balances and the financial summary for the same period.

Superintendent updates included committee reports, an FFA update, curriculum updates and a K-5 building update. The board also reviewed several policies, including procurement and administration of overdose reversal drugs, misbranded and cultivated-protein food products and entrance age requirements. A presentation was given by Nashville Elementary Principal Brian Zimmerly, featuring Mrs. Kurtz’s class and an interview with its Eagle Experts.

In new business, the board approved participation in the MEC Purchasing Consortium and the State of Ohio Cooperative Purchasing Program. Members also approved updated board policies on nondiscrimination, sexual harassment and expense reimbursements.

The board approved a memorandum of understanding with Kent State University for the 2026-27 school year.

Several personnel actions were approved. Retirements included Laurie Strine, teacher, effective May 31; Raye Pringle, cook, effective July 1; and Susan Johnson, cook, effective May 31. The board accepted the resignation of teacher Taylor Jordan, effective May 31.

The board approved the hiring of substitute teachers Shauna Ewing, Cody Yankello, Crystal Lovell and Gavin Greer.

Supplemental positions approved included Jason Snyder as middle school assistant track coach; Shelby Evans for five hours per week of home instruction for special education services for a student; Kristin Yabroff as volunteer tennis chaperone; Brittanie Chaney as assistant high school track coach with a two-thirds stipend adjustment; and Zaylie Shultz as assistant high school track coach with a one-third stipend.

The next meeting is scheduled for April 20 at West Holmes Middle School.
