Coshocton County piano competition set for April
Annual event offers cash prizes for local student musicians at Historic Roscoe Village.
Plans are underway for the annual Edward E. Montgomery Jr. Piano Competition to be held Sunday, April 12. This will be the 38th competition, which was established in 1987 by The Montgomery Foundation to honor the wishes of Edward E. Montgomery Jr. The participants perform on his piano, which currently rests in the Ivy Room in the Visitor Center in Historic Roscoe Village.
The senior division competition is open to participants residing in Coshocton County in ninth grade through 12th grade. Junior division format includes participants in seventh grade through ninth grade. Ninth-graders have their choice of division.
The winner of the senior division will receive a $1,000 cash prize while the junior division will be awarded a $250 cash prize. In the elder division, participants compete with a memorized selection from the current OMEA Class A list. The junior division will require competitors to perform a selection from OMEA Class C list, and memorization also is a requirement.
Any person who provides piano instruction to an individual who resides in Coshocton County or a prospective competitor is encouraged to contact The Montgomery Foundation Office at 365 N. Whitewoman St. in Coshocton or call 740-622-2696.
Application forms and guidelines are now available with local piano teachers and school district music departments or guidance offices.
