This will be the 38th competition, which was established in 1987 by The Montgomery Foundation to honor the wishes of Edward E. Montgomery Jr. The participants perform on his piano, which currently rests in the Ivy Room in the Visitor Center in Historic Roscoe Village.

In the elder division, participants compete with a memorized selection from the current OMEA Class A list. The junior division will require competitors to perform a selection from OMEA Class C list, and memorization also is a requirement.
