WCSCC SkillsUSA chapter named national Model of Excellence

The Wayne County Schools Career Center SkillsUSA chapter officer team of Temperance Lemon, left, Quinton Hewitt, Molly Green, Jacob Lannaeux, Marley Snyder, Emry Thompson and Chloe Grayshaw will travel to Atlanta to compete for the top spot as one of 24 SkillsUSA Model of Excellence Chapters nationwide.

The Wayne County Schools Career Center’s chapter of SkillsUSA has been honored as one of 2025's most outstanding SkillsUSA programs in the country.

The annual Models of Excellence program recognizes the integration of personal, workplace and technical skills, as outlined in the SkillsUSA framework, into SkillsUSA chapter activities. This is the highest honor bestowed on chapters by SkillsUSA.

The career center’s SkillsUSA chapter officer team incorporated the school’s annual Veterans Day assembly as part of its submission for the distinction. The officer team consists of Quinton Hewitt, Marley Snyder, Jacob Lannaeux, Temperance Lemon, Molly Green, Emry Thompson and Chloe Grayshaw. They will travel to Atlanta this summer to present and be interviewed by a panel of national judges and industry experts, with the possibility of being chosen as the top chapter for the personal skills component.

“Our SkillsUSA top 24 Models of Excellence schools represent the best in chapter achievement and community involvement,” said Chelle Travis, executive director of SkillsUSA. “These students are America's future skilled workforce and future leaders in their local communities. It is a tremendous honor for these schools, and their recognition validates these outstanding SkillsUSA programs.”

The 24 SkillsUSA chapters selected as Models of Excellence will be interviewed in June at the SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference in Atlanta. A panel of judges will evaluate each chapter based on its goals, student-led plan of action, results, final evaluation and integration of the SkillsUSA framework.

All chapters will be honored at the NLSC, and the top three schools will be named on June 27 at the SkillsUSA Awards Session at State Farm Arena for personal skills, workplace skills and technical skills. The winners receive national recognition and the opportunity to share their stories in SkillsUSA publications and trainings.
