Climer, Matthews, Vernon finish in top three in their respective weight classes

The Centerburg boys’ wrestling team finished sixth in its
own invitational on Saturday.
The Trojans scored 88 points on the day in the 17-team
tourney. Olentangy Berlin won the event with 232.
Cory Climer, Noah Matthews and Braxton Vernon all finished
high on the podium for the Trojans.
Climer was the runner-up in the 126-pound weight class. He
won three straight matches, including one by pin, to make it to the finals.
There, he lost 13-0 to Zayne Cassidy of Olentangy Berlin.
Matthews also finished in second at 132. He won three
matches, including two by pin, to advance to the finals where he was pinned by
Max Whitesel of Crestview.
Vernon came in third at 138 pounds. He won his first two
matches via pin, but fell in the semifinals. Vernon rebounded to win two
impressive decisions (13-0 and 10-6) to finish with the bronze.

Jeremiah Dodson (157 pounds) and Cole Evans (215) each won
two matches during the event with Evans finishing fourth overall. Devin Nelson
(132), Zack Greene (144), Joe Bell (150) and Angelo Pizzuti (190) all won a
match.
Bowling
The Centerburg boys’ bowling team won one match and lost another before trying their luck at an invitational this week.
The Trojans dropped a 2,107-1,636 decision to Knox Morrow Athletic Conference foe Northmor on Jan. 1.
Michael Wallace led CHS with games of 204-188, while Zach Garloch shot 142-184.
The Trojans rebounded to beat Crestline, 1,762-1,340 on Jan. 23.
Wallace was again the top bowler, firing games of 185 and 202. Jarrod White shot 166-162 and Luke Pack had 143-161.
Centerburg then participated in the Muskingum University Invitational at Park Lanes, finishing 12th with a score of 2,204.
Wallace had a 499 series (136-203-160) to lead the team. Pack was next at 402 (122-130-150).
The Lady Trojans dropped both of their matches this week.
The first was a 1,629-1,084 decision to league-leading Northmor.
Jaelyn Caldwell led the Trojans with games of 111 and 90. Azala Compton had games of 88 and 102, while Hannah Wilson had a high game of 110 and Moody Lynn a 108.
The girls then dropped a 1,650-954 decision to Crestline on Jan. 23.
Compton shot 222 (91-131) to lead Centerburg. Caldwell had a 218 (143-75).
Boys’ basketball
Centerburg held on for dear life Jan. 23, knocking off East Knox, 49-48, in a Knox Morrow Athletic Conference game.
The Trojans led 36-32 after three quarters before EK mounted a comeback.
Cole Brody led the Trojans with 21 points. Blane Ball added 11.
