Wooster author wins Ohioana Book Award

The 82nd annual Ohioana Book Awards have been officially announced, and among the honorees is Wooster resident Marcy Campbell, whose picture book for children, "The More You Give," is this year's winner in juvenile literature.
First given in 1942, the Ohioana Book Awards are the second oldest state literary prize in the nation. Only the California Book Awards are older. Juried awards are given in six categories, with a seventh award, the Readers' Choice, selected by readers in an online poll.
In addition to the book award winners, the winner of the 2023 Walter Rumsey Marvin Grant, a competitive prize for Ohio writers age 30 or younger who have not yet published a book, was announced. This year's Marvin winner is Cleveland writer Kortney Morrow. Past recipients of the grant include Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Anthony Doerr.
This is Campbell's first Ohioana Book Award, after previously being a finalist in this same category in 2018 for her debut, "Adrian Simcox Does NOT Have a Horse," and in 2022 for "Something Good."
Campbell is only the third author in the 82-year history of the Ohioana Book Awards to come from Wayne County. The first was Lucy L. Notestein in the nonfiction category in 1964 for "Hill Towns of Italy." In 1992 Ellice Ronsheim won in the About Ohio category for "Quilts in Community: Ohio's Traditions."

Campbell and other award winners will be honored at a reception and ceremony at the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus on Thursday, Sept. 21.
