West Holmes BOE holds October meeting

The West Holmes Local Schools Board of Education met Monday, Oct. 16 at West Holmes High School for a regular meeting.

The board did the following during the meeting:

—Approved accepting the RFQ and hiring of Fanning Howey for the West Holmes Local Schools k-5 building project.

—Approved a legal resolution authorizing a ground lease, a lease-purchase agreement and related documents providing for financing the costs of the construction, enlarging or other improvement, furnishing and equipping, and the lease and eventual acquisition of facilities or improvements to facilities for school district purposes, including constructing, furnishing and equipping a building to house kindergarten through fifth grade and clearing, improving and equipping its site, and authorizing and approving other related matters.

—Approved a resolution authorizing its legal counsel, in the JUUL litigation, Frantz Law Group, to consent on behalf of the board to the proposed settlement of said litigation with Altria Group Inc., Phillip Morris USA Inc. and related companies specified in the settlement and release agreement, subject to legal counsel’s final review and approval of the terms and conditions of the settlement agreement as being consistent with the terms and conditions legal counsel previously discussed with the board.

—Approved an updated resolution accepting the amounts and rates as determined by the budget commission and authorizing the necessary tax levies and certifying them to the county auditor (reflects the elimination of two emergency levies and shifted inside millage).

—Approved the following supplemental contracts: Benjamin Belden, boys basketball varsity head coach; Tennille Cline, boys basketball varsity assistant coach; Ethan Kinsey, boys basketball JV coach; Toby Yoder, boys basketball MS head coach; Darrin Yerian, boys basketball MS assistant coach; Lindsy Belden, girls basketball varsity head coach; Nathanial Wade, girls basketball varsity assistant coach; Cody Starr, girls basketball JV coach; Adam Garver, girls basketball varsity volunteer; Evan Aurand, girls basketball MS head coach; Clay Miller, girls basketball MS assistant coach; Scott Vaughn, wrestling varsity head coach;

Andy Toye, wrestling varsity assistant coach; Logan Stanley, wrestling JV coach; Brad McCluggage, wrestling varsity volunteer; Corbin Miller, wrestling varsity volunteer; Colt Cox, wrestling varsity volunteer; Steve Goans, wrestling varsity volunteer; Justin Wilcox, wrestling MS head coach; Justin Ross, wrestling MS assistant coach; Justin Angle, wrestling MS volunteer; Timothy McClintock, wrestling MS volunteer; Raven Wilcox, cheerleading varsity head coach; Beth Lemon, cheerleading varsity assistant coach; Jamie Aufrance, cheerleading MS head coach; Tiffany Conner, cheerleading MS assistant coach; Christopher Young, bowling varsity head coach; and Zachary Medley, bowling volunteer coach.

—Approved adjusting the calendar to make spring break April 1-5, 2024, and include Monday, April 8, 2024, due to the solar eclipse.

—Approved three trips for the high school wrestling team.

—Approved the West Holmes High School robotics teams to attend the 2023 Kalahari Classic VRC Signature Event.

—Approved moving the Jan. 15, 2024, board meeting to Jan. 8, 2024.

—Approved the resignation of Joel Groff, technology, effective Sept. 20.

—Approved home instruction contracts for BJ Addair and Kesha Stutzman.

—Approved two board policies.

Other information

The next board meeting is scheduled for Nov. 20 at Lakeville Elementary.
