Two groups install lights at Holmesville Trailhead

The Holmes County Democratic Party and the Wayne County Sustainable Energy Network recently collaborated on a project to improve visibility and safety at the Holmesville Rails-to-Trails Trailhead.

After consulting with Holmes County Park District Director Jen Halverson and getting her approval, members of the two groups researched and chose lighting suitable for the location. This location is a popular exit/entrance to the trail used by buggies, horses, walkers, joggers and cyclists. From dusk until the trail closes, the solar lighting illuminates the parking area, picnic area and exit from the trail. Materials for the lighting project were provided by donations from the two organizations and by Pel Electric in Wooster.

In addition to this project, Holmes County Democratic Party members volunteer every year in cleaning a stretch of state Route 39 south of Millersburg. Although this is their first project involving trailhead lighting, there are plans to install lighting at another site in the future. Individual members are active throughout the county in various civic and volunteer activities. The HCDP will have a booth at the fair where attendees can learn about the mission and accomplishments of the Democratic Party.

The purpose of the Wayne County Sustainable Energy Network is to advance sustainable energy in the area. The nonprofit organization raises awareness by educating the public and offering resources to assist individuals and organizations in their sustainable energy efforts. It provides resources, materials, information, workshops and projects to prepare individuals, the community and businesses to become more energy efficient, use resources more wisely, and increase sustainable energy generation for homes, community and commercial buildings. Although membership in the group is open to all, this is the first project to be implemented in Holmes County, thanks to the interest and participation of the Holmes County Democratic Party.
