The Lawrence Township Board of Trustees discussed the ongoing request for lighting at the intersection of state Route 212 and North Orchard Road (County Road 103). Numerous residents have complained over the past several years about the intersection being too difficult to see at night.

At the Aug. 31 board meeting, trustees agreed to look into the matter further, with zoning inspector Ron Weekley informing the board that the Ohio Department of Transportation offers safety grants for the installation of flashing lights.

Trustee Mike Haueter said he has looked into lighting and landscaping around the new Wilkshire Hills/Lawrence Township sign at that same intersection. Todd Reynolds, cemetery sextant, said a representative from Fenton Electric will provide a cost estimate that would include lighting the American flag there.

Reynolds said chip and seal work is underway, and deaf child signs have been installed where requested by a resident earlier this month.

Weekley announced zoning commission meetings will be changed to the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. through the end of the year.

Administrative assistant Martina Mann said she contacted MK Engraving for an estimate on signage for the township building doors and that work on basketball courts at the Lawrence Township River Community Park will take place at the end of September. The courts will need to be closed for five to six days.

Fiscal officer Ann Ackerman said the Auditor of State’s Office will not conduct audits for the next 10 years. Instead, they will refer the township to private companies for the audits, estimating the cost to be approximately $6,000.

Reynolds said he is having all cemetery records scanned and saved electronically on a flash drive to be stored offsite.

Trustees approved the following:

—The purchase of a DeWalt 6 Tool Combo for $965 requested by Reynolds.

—Spending $345 to repair the police cruiser at Troy’s Body Shop in Bolivar.

—A resolution accepting the amounts and rates as determined by the budget commission and authorizing the necessary tax levies and certifying them to the county auditor.

The Lawrence Township Board of Trustees meets the second and last Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. at the Charles E. Lundenberger Hall, 10867 Industrial Parkway NW, Bolivar. All meetings are open to the public.
