SpringHaven finds new home on Durstine Road
SpringHaven, a Christian, not-for-profit, outpatient mental health counseling center, is moving ahead with the purchase of a property at 15550 Durstine Rd., just 1.5 miles south of Mt. Eaton.SpringHaven plans to develop a program modeled after Oaklawn/Rest Haven in Goshen, Ind., which has a short-term residential home operated by the Amish on campus. SpringHaven counselors will be available within walking distance and will use a combination of individual and group therapy in this program. An Amish board is currently being formed around this intention. This will be phase two of our project, stated Steve Steiner, board chairman of SpringHaven, commenting on the short-term housing for Amish residents.SpringHaven first plans to renovate an existing heated outbuilding into SpringHaven counseling offices. The renovation will include a large room which will make space available for community mental health updates and educational events. The building will also have room for a psychiatrist who will be available for the community. The goal is to complete this phase and have offices moved by fall 2010.This purchase was made possible with the incredible support from the local community, stated Steiner. We are humbled by the outpouring support from both the Amish and non-Amish community and will continue to do our best to develop meaningful mental health programs and services for our community.Seventy percent of the monies are either in-hand or pledged. The board is hoping the remainder will come in before closing in mid-June. Many community members are also offering materials, labor, ongoing volunteering, and other support.SpringHaven is currently located on Winesburg Road about one mile south of SR 250 and about 3 miles north of US 62. For more information about SpringHaven and its upcoming relocation, contact Steve Steiner at 330-749-9965 or LaVina Weaver at the SpringHaven offices at 330-359-6100.
