Ribbon cutting and dedication for multipurpose building

Strasburg-Franklin Schools held its ribbon cutting and dedication of the new multipurpose/athletic facility on Aug. 21. A large crowd attended the event that was followed by the Back-to-School Bash.
The $3 million facility, located off Tiger Drive, was paid from COVID funds and donations from the Tiger Foundation, the school district and others. There are six basketball courts, volleyball courts, a practice area for softball and baseball, a walking track, an adjoining weight room, a restroom, storage, and a mechanical room.
“This will allow student-athletes to hold practices and be home at a reasonable time. A special gym floor was installed so those practicing baseball and softball will not damage the floor,” Superintendent Vince Lindsey said.
Beaver Construction was the construction manager at risk. Lesko Associates was hired as the design professional services. The board agreed to use light tan brick trimmed in colonial red on the exterior of the facility. At the rear of the facility is a large Tiger head that lights at night.
Once a schedule is worked out, the public will be allowed to use the walking track. Double doors will lock so admission into the school area without permission will not be allowed.
A breakfast was held Aug. 22 for staff in-service. The breakfast was supplied by the four local churches. On Aug. 21 Rosalie’s Restaurant supplied the teachers’ breakfast. Several staff members, board members and students spoke during the event. The first day for students was Aug. 23.
“Be the best in all you do the Tiger Way,” Lindsey said.
