Chuck McNutt informed the Lawrence Township Board of Trustees at its Oct. 26 meeting that all planned paving for 2023 projects is complete. McNutt is the township’s road supervisor.

Two residents who attended the meeting thanked the township and remarked on the quality of the work performed on Welton Road, Wilkshire Boulevard and Lafont Circle. McNutt thanked Newton Asphalt for going beyond the requirements of the job by including driveway aprons and a lot of shovel work.

Trustees approved payment to Duramark for the striping that remains to be done on Wilkshire Boulevard and Welton Road in the amount of $19,420. Trustees also passed a resolution approving the use of remaining ARPA funds for the project.

In a related matter, Perry Myers, assistant road supervisor, reported on having performed asphalt foldup work during recent road repairs. He said the job required renting a plate tamper and compacting asphalt and other aggregates. Myers asked trustees to purchase a plate tamper for future work at a cost of $2,785 from Leppo Equipment.

Trustee Matt Ritterbeck said given a one-day rental of a plate tamper is around $600, he could see the value of buying one for the township. Trustee Mike Haueter agreed, and the board approved the expense.

Zoning question

New township resident Nikki Moore inquired about zoning regulations regarding adding a wood burner on their property. She said she has received conflicting information from neighbors, which she hoped to have clarified because part of the property is in a flood plain.

In the absence of zoning inspector Ron Weekley, Ritterbeck said he would give Moore a contact number at Army Corps of Engineers and that she should check with them first. Moore expressed surprise, considering she only wanted to add a wood burner near their garage.

“The Army Corps are sticklers on everything, even a playhouse or a swing set, because in a flood they would float away,” Ritterbeck said. “You wouldn’t want to get a permit from us or even check with Ron until you knew for a fact that you could put it there.”

In other matters

Chairman Don Ackerman asked that road crews replace or straighten the stop sign at the end of Industrial Parkway. He also reminded those in attendance that the Township Hall will serve as a polling place in the Nov. 7 election.

Trustees approved upcoming expenses for elected township officials to attend the Ohio Township Association’s annual winter conference and trade show Feb. 7-9.

The Lawrence Township Board of Trustees meets the second and last Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. in Charles E. Lundenberger Hall, 10867 Industrial Parkway NW, Bolivar.
