Ohio & Erie Captain’s Ball Auction opens May 8

The Canal Boat Captain’s Ball of the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition raises funds to support the coalition’s mission of developing, enhancing, preserving and activating the Ohio & Erie Canalway and Towpath Trail in Summit, Stark and Tuscarawas counties. This year’s Captain’s Ball will honor T. Clifford Deveny, M.D., president and CEO of Summa Health, for his dedication to community health and wellness and support of the Towpath Trail.

The Captain’s Ball Virtual Auction will open May 8 at 8 a.m. and close May 15 at 8 p.m. at one.bidpal.net/oecc2024. Businesses, organizations and supporters across the Ohio & Erie Canalway, state of Ohio and beyond have donated items and experiences including a ride in the Goodyear Blimp, an electric bicycle from Blimp City Bike & Hike, a Rise and Shine Safari at the Akron Zoo, a getaway to Chautauqua Lake in New York, a brewing experience at Hoppin’ Frog Brewery and more.

All proceeds from the Canal Boat Captain’s Ball will support the continued development of the Ohio & Erie Canalway, Towpath Trail, connector trails and adjacent public spaces. Consider supporting the Fund-A-Need for the Ohio & Erie Canalway Fishing Derby while participating in the auction, an event that provides Akron Public School students with the opportunity to learn how to fish and the importance of environmental stewardship along the Ohio & Erie Canal.
