New Philadelphia Lions crown 2023 rose queen

Sarah Ciereszewski, a senior at New Philadelphia High School, was recently crowned the 2023 rose queen for New Philadelphia Lions Club. The announcement was made at the club’s annual Rose Day Banquet at Ricardo’s in New Philadelphia.
Ciereszewski’s selection makes her the 74th rose queen for the club, dating back to 1949. Joining her on the court are attendants Avae Buss and Shelby Miller. Buss and Miller are seniors at Tuscarawas Central Catholic High School.
Ciereszewski is the daughter of Rachel and Adam Ciereszewski. She plays volleyball, basketball and softball for NPHS. She plans to continue playing softball in college and received Division II East District honorable mention and second-team OCC awards last year. She is interested in pursuing a career in sports management.
Buss is the daughter of Monica and Frank Buss. She plays basketball for TCC. She also volunteers for Big Brothers Big Sisters and for the Vacation Bible School at Sacred Heart Church. She is interested in a career in fashion, nursing or law enforcement, possibly with the FBI. During the summer she works at Spaw Days. She loves animals and also enjoys nature and travel.
Miller is the daughter of Deanna Watts and lives with her grandmother Freda Watts. She participates on the Academic Challenge team at TCC and is a member of its Creative Writing Club. She enjoys volunteering at animal shelters. She also has volunteered at St. Joe’s Festival and several other nonprofit fundraisers. She plans to attend Aultman College to pursue a degree in radiologic technology. She spends her free time working on her hobbies of reading, writing and drawing.
The NP Lions Club will hold its annual Rose Sale this week with members selling on the square in downtown New Philadelphia through Saturday, Oct. 7. Roses remain $20 per dozen again this year. Proceeds from the sale support numerous community agencies and organizations in New Philadelphia. Funds also support the International Association of Lions Clubs Foundation in its fight to eliminate blindness and eye-related diseases around the world.
