The New Philadelphia Lions crowned the 2024 Rose Court recently. Roses will be for sale on the square in New Philadelphia through Saturday, Oct. 5 for $25 a dozen.

Sloan Agar is the queen and daughter of Justin and Heather Agar. Her brother is Oscar. She is a senior at NPHS, where she has participated for four years on the volleyball and track and field teams. She also is student council president, class historian, a member of National Honor Society, and an active member of Key Club, Science Club and Art Club. She is ranked fourth in her class academically and intends to pursue a degree in business or dentistry.

She enjoys working at Tuscora Park, keeping basketball stats, playing pickleball and hanging with friends. After high school she plans to attend college but is undecided about a major, and she has not made a decision yet about which college to attend.

Ava Riesen is on the Rose Court and is the daughter of Kerry and Susan Riesen. She is a senior at NPHS. Her sister is Gabrielle, a sophomore at Kent State University majoring in nursing. Her brother Nicklaus is a freshman at NPHS and is on the soccer team. She is an academic award letter winner. She will earn her four-year varsity letter in volleyball this year and her three-year varsity letter in basketball, and she earned a varsity letter her freshman year in track.

She is involved in student council, a member of Delphian Chorale and the OCC Leadership Committee, and volunteers for Big Brothers Big Sisters. She attends First Christian Church in New Philadelphia. She works as a ride operator at Tuscora Park in the summer. After high school she plans to attend college but is undecided about a major, and she is still undecided about which college to attend.

Julia Sciarretti is on the Rose Court and is the daughter of John and Lori Sciarretti. She is a senior at Tuscarawas Central Catholic High School and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She also is enrolled at Kent State University and Stark State College, where she takes CCP classes. She has been a part of the TCC volleyball, basketball, and track and field teams all four years and earned four team captain titles. She also is IVC first team in track and field and IVC honorable mention in volleyball.

She is a member of the National Honor Society and is a member of student council. She won the Kiwanis 4.0 GPA award, Academic Letter and was her class’ Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership conference delegate. During the summers she has been employed as a lifeguard at Union Country Club, and this year she started a waitressing job at Timi’s Cafe, where she works during the day when not in school.

In her free time, she loves learning new sewing techniques and spends many hours sewing and designing clothing for fun. She recently started a brand on Instagram, where she sells pieces she creates. After high school she plans to attend college and earn a degree in fashion merchandising. She has not yet decided which college to attend.
