New AloNovus publication Medina Weekly News makes debut

Beginning in July, Medina and surrounding communities have been getting a new weekly newspaper. The Millersburg-based AloNovus Corp. began publishing the new Medina Weekly News, which is now mailed each Thursday to every single-family home in the 44256 zip code west of I-271. Homes east of I-271 will receive a different zoned edition later this summer. The media company — whose banners include the Holmes Bargain Hunter, the Wooster Weekly News, and Mimi Magazine, is also planning new weekly newspapers in southern Medina County, Wadsworth, Brunswick, Strongsville, Fairlawn, and communities throughout Stark County.

“There are so many excellent communities in Northeast Ohio that deserve a good-quality source for local news,” said Michael Mast, president of AloNovus, which has been publishing newspapers and magazines since 1975.

“Weekly newspapers help build community and support local businesses — provided everyone receives it. That’s why we’ve embraced a total market coverage strategy. Rather than being subscription-based, every single-family home will receive a copy in the mail at no charge.”

Mast said the new weeklies will focus on “what makes Medina County a great place to live,” by highlighting arts and culture, dining, schools, home and garden, health and fitness, real estate, automotive and classifieds.

“We also plan to be forward thinking in our strategy,” Mast said. “Our newsroom will place more emphasis on upcoming events that residents can plan for and enjoy, rather than emphasizing things that have already happened.”

In addition to newspapers, the company also offers digital marketing strategies and website development.

Kevin McManus, a former editor for The Post newspapers, will serve as editor of the new Medina Weekly News, and Karl Gerhard, also formerly of The Post, will serve as senior marketing consultant helping local businesses plan advertising strategies.
