Main Street Wooster recently announced its Downtown Wooster Farmers’ Market Music Program has been awarded $2,655 from the Ohio Arts Council. The grant will help fund live, free musical performances in Historic Downtown Wooster’s public square.

“Live, local musicians add so much joy and energy to the market atmosphere every Saturday with their tunes,” said Guinevere Steensen, program manager of Main Street Wooster. “Creating community gatherings for a good time draws folks to downtown Wooster for shopping and dining, supporting our local business partners and strengthening our town’s economy.

“The free market music is always upbeat to bring smiles to faces and welcome impromptu dance parties from the kids in tow. The ambience can’t be beat.”

The Downtown Wooster Farmers’ Market runs annually every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon on the downtown square from mid-May to the first weekend in October, and the free concerts at the market are located at the pavilion on the northeast quad from 9-11 a.m. The market will relocate for one Saturday only to in front of Local Roots on Walnut Street on Sept. 28 due to Woosterfest.

The market is put on by Main Street Wooster. The lead sponsor is E&H Ace Hardware. Supporting sponsors are Briggs & Starr Wealth Management, Wooster Color Point and Farmers State Bank. Music is provided in partnership with the City of Wooster. Downtown Wooster Farmers’ Market music is made possible in part by an investment of public funds from the Ohio Arts Council. The OAC is a state agency that funds and supports arts experiences to strengthen Ohio communities culturally, educationally and economically.
