Millersburg Food Run set for July 28
Published Modified

The Millersburg Food Run is scheduled for Sunday, July 28 at 8 a.m.

The Millersburg Food Run 10k, 5k and 1-mile began in 2018 as a way for the Millersburg Seventh-day Adventist Church to help meet the needs of some Holmes County families. All profits from the race will be donated to the Love Center Food Pantry.

“It’s exciting to see how the race has grown since we started,” Race Director Eva Durbin said. “Each year we have more participants and new business sponsors, meaning we’ve been able to raise more for the Love Center. It’s really thanks to community support that we’ve been able to see the race grow the way it has.”

Since the race started in 2018, it has raised $17,560 for the Love Center.

The Love Center Food Pantry has been servicing the needs of Holmes County since 1986. Nearly 1,000 families utilize the food pantry, and it processes over 660,000 pounds of food a year.

Edgar Raber, director of the Love Center Food Pantry, said because the food pantry is able to purchase large quantities of food from the Akron-Canton Foodbank for less than grocery store prices, financial donations go further than donated food items. This Christian ministry is supported by businesses and congregations throughout Holmes County.

There will be competitive, professionally timed 5k and 10k courses and a noncompetitive 1-mile course. There is a child price for the 1-mile race so the whole family can participate. Runners, joggers and walkers are welcome. The race is an out-and-back course on a flat, paved path starting at Hipp Station Depot near Historic Downtown Millersburg and running through wooded areas and farm fields.

There will be a beverage and snack table for participants after the race, and all participants will receive a medal, goodie bag and a ticket for a prize drawing of gift baskets. T-shirts will be on a first come, first served basis. Gift basket donations from local businesses include AutoZone Auto Parts, E&H Ace Hardware, Heini’s Cheese, Long Lane Woodworks and Star Brite Car Wash.
