Local writer Beth Mulcahy of Wooster recently announced the release of her debut chapbook titled “Firmer Ground.”

Published by Anxiety Press, a Chicago-based publisher, “Firmer Ground” is a collection of short form creative writing that includes poems and creative borrowed form pieces such as a museum placard, help text and meeting minutes. A chapbook is a short collection of poems or other writings, usually self-published or published by small independent presses.

Mulcahy said “Firmer Ground” takes the reader on a journey from surviving to thriving, with a sense of hope and strength that emerges.

“It’s in the blood. It’s in the writing,” said Kellie Scott-Reed, associate editor in chief of Roi Faineant Press, an online literary blog. “In Beth Mulcahy’s book of poetry, ‘Firmer Ground,’ heredity, blood ties and the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves are explored with radical honesty and gorgeous language. This collection taps into something passed down like red hair — something beyond us and unique to us. The intimacy in Mulcahy’s words combined with her gift of craft brings you in so close you can recognize your own face in her reflection.”

Mulcahy is an award-winning poet and writer whose work has been featured in various literary journals and magazines. She lives in Wooster with her husband and two children and works for a company that provides technology to people without natural speech.
