Issue 1 would legalize gerrymandering, not prevent it

Letter to the Editor,
For everyone trying to decipher the true implications of Issue 1, I recommend reading “Fact-checking the scheme that threatens to turn democracy upside down in Ohio” by Garth Kant (Sept. 27, 2024). You can find this on the ohiosenate.gov website.
Ohio Democrats and left-wing special interest groups are spending more than $26 million to push a misleading “Citizens not Politicians” message when all the amendment would do is seriously weaken your right to decide who represents you in Congress and the Ohio State House. A panel of unelected bureaucrats would determine the boundaries of your state and congressional districts, and that would determine which candidates you can vote for.
The bottom line: Issue 1 is a threat to democracy because it seeks to guarantee a certain amount of wins for each party, regardless of the will of the voters. And that is the textbook definition of gerrymandering.
Fact-checking (no matter how difficult) is imperative, as is voting in an election that will determine the course of our great country.
