Kids are going back to school, and programs are returning to the children’s department at the Dover Public Library.

A Touch-a-Truck event will be held Saturday, Sept. 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. “It is one of our biggest programs with over a dozen vehicles present for the kids to explore,” said Jen Gardner children’s department manager.

The program also will have a new visitor, The Bee, a transformer, who will be available for pictures. The Friends of the Library will offer a free lunch of hot dogs, chips and a drink. Plus, the library will have truck novelties for the kids.

Story times will begin Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The recommended ages for the story times are 3 and under for the 10:30 a.m. and over 3 for the afternoon story time, but all are welcome at both.

The 1:30 p.m. story time includes a craft to make at the library. Saturday story times will resume Sept. 16 at 10:30 a.m. with Talk Like a Pirate stories and activities.

Wednesday, Sept. 27 will have a guest reader at the 1:30 p.m. story time from the Dover Phila Federal Credit Union, and Saturday, Sept. 30 at 10:30 a.m. will be Spanish story time to honor Hispanic Heritage Month.

Some of the ongoing programs that will begin in September are Lego Builders Club on the second Thursday of each month with the first meeting beginning Thursday, Sept. 14 at 4 p.m. It will include instruction and challenges this year.

A book club for kids age 8-12 will be held every third Tuesday of the month with the first meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 4 p.m. A book will be provided for each participant, and each month there will be discussion on chapters read and an activity. A book club for children age 5-7 will begin in October.

A new club will begin the fourth Wednesday of each month, which is STEAM Team. The club will make and discuss STEAM activities each month with the first meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 4 p.m. There is no sign-up for each club until the first meeting. All children can come to the first meeting for more details.
