East Holmes Board of Education holds July meeting

East Holmes Local Schools Board of Education met Friday, July 21 at the East Holmes Central Office for the regular July board meeting.

The board did the following during the meeting:

—Approved the payment of bills and the June 2023 financial and reconciliation reports as submitted by the treasurer.

—Approved a “then and now” certificate for RJ Wright & Sons totaling $4,067.52 with the money coming from the general fund.

—Approved the purpose statements and budgets for the 2023-24 school year.

—Approved participating in the following federal programs for the 2023-24 school year: improving basic programs, supporting effective instruction, language instruction for English learners, student support and academic enrichment, special education, American Rescue Plan elementary and secondary school emergency relief, and ARP Homeless American Rescue Plan targeted support grant round one and two.

—Approved the cafeteria change fund in the amount of $175 to be issued to the following schools as listed for the 2023-24 school year: Berlin at $25, Chestnut Ridge at $25, Flat Ridge at $25, Mt. Hope at $25, Walnut Creek at $25, Winesburg at $25 and Wise at $25.

—Approved the estimated revenues and the amended certificate of estimated resources.

—Approved the permanent appropriations for 2023-24 as amended with the accompanying 412 certificate.

—Accepted donations from Mullet Cabinet for $1,500 to the Esports Club at Hiland HS/MS, ProVia for $8,500 to the Esports Club at Hiland HS/MS, Keim Family Charitable Fund for $5,000 to the Esports Club at Hiland HS/MS and Stewardship Property Management for $1,000 to the Esports Club at Hiland HS/MS.

—Approved the East Holmes meal charge policy and meal prices policy for the 2023-24 school year.

—Approved a shared services agreement with Garaway Local School District wherein East Holmes Local School District will transport students to and from Beacon Hill Community School for the 2023-24 school year.

—Approved a contract with the Holmes County Board of Developmental Disabilities for providing educational teacher assistant support services for students attending the Holmes County Training Center for the 2023-24 school year.

—Approved a contract with Innovative Solutions Group Inc. for the SFSPac Food Service Sanitation and Safety Program for the 2023-24 school year.

—Approved a purchased services agreement with the Educational Service Center of Central Ohio for services provided to the district for the 2023-24 school year.

—Approved the updated East Holmes Local School District employee handbook.

—Approved a resolution authorizing META Solutions to advertise and receive bus bids on behalf of East Holmes Local Schools for the 2023-24 school year as per the specifications submitted.

—Approved the following contracts with Tri-County Educational Service Center for the 2023-24 school year: Educational Services, handicapped preschool, fine arts, career connections; Special Services, Medicaid school program; and Employment Services, speech/language pathologists.

—Appointed James Gertz as the delegate and Kyle Miller as the alternate to the OSBA Capital Conference to be held Nov. 12-14.

—Deemed Superintendent Erik Beun’s annual review as positive.

—Approved a contract with Mansfield Psychological Services to provide school psychologist services for the 2023-24 school year.

—Accepted the resignations of Karen Brown, cook at Winesburg, effective at the end of the 2022-23 contractual school year; Lori Medick, aide at Berlin, effective July 19; Elizabeth Penfound, instrumental music grades 5-12, effective at the end of the 2022-23 contractual school year; Jolene Yoder, cook at Berlin, effective June 20; and Naomi Yoder, cook at Hiland/Mt. Hope, effective at the end of the 2022-23 contractual school year.

—Approved a one-year limited contract for the 2023-24 school year for the following new certified personnel, pending completion of all license requirements: Zachary Rearick, instrumental music grades 5-12 for the district, and Jennifer Weber, math grades 7-8 at Hiland.

—Approved an extended service contract for the 2023-24 school year for Rearick, instrumental music director, for 10 days.

—Approved a one-year limited contract for the 2023-24 school year for the following new classified personnel, pending completion of all requirements: Jewell Bontrager, cook at Berlin, and Victoria McDowell, cook at Hiland/Mt. Hope.

—Approved the following placement on the certified salary schedule effective at the beginning of the 2023-24 contractual school year: Kristine Kister to Masters+20.

—Approved John Whitmer as the transportation assistant for the 2023-24 school year. He will receive a stipend of $10,000 contingent upon school being in session, paid in three installments in November, March and June.

—Approved the following supplemental positions for the 2023-24 school year: Garret Shoup, junior high golf coach; Nicholas Hostetler, junior high boys soccer coach (split stipend); and Matthew Beechy, junior high boys soccer coach (split stipend).

The next board meeting is scheduled for Aug. 18 at 7:30 a.m. at the East Holmes Central Office.
