Daughter assumes ownership of salon her mother began in 1991
Home-owned, homegrown businesses are something Holmes County prides itself on. Any businessman or businesswoman wants to have a successful business, but there is one thing they want even more. They want their children to find success. Most parents have hope their children will follow in the family business and follow in their footsteps. That dream came true for Diana Miller of Dianas Design in Berlin. To be a beautician had been a dream from when I was a girl, Miller said. Miller went after her dream and started beauty school while parenting three children the youngest, a first-grader. After beauty school she spent three years at a salon learning the ropes of salon life. Her dream to own a salon came true in 1991. Ive learned a lot over the years, Miller said. She opened Dianas Design as a one-woman operation where she would do hair and nails. In 1996 her daughter Dayna Guzman came on staff as a nail tech. What started as a small salon with just Miller and later Guzman, expanded with an addition in 2001. Now Dianas Design is booming with business and a staff of six including Carree Miller, Julia Beachy, Leah Kline and Sonya Stutzman. Recently another dream came true for Miller when they signed papers for Guzman to take ownership of the shop. Im blessed that Dayna is taking over, and it can go to the next generation, Miller said. I feel like I have big shoes to fill. Im excited and honored to take it to the next level and to grow the business, Guzman said. Guzman intends to offer spray tanning next spring. The name of the salon will stay the same, and Miller will still work two nights a week. Its hard to start in the nail industry. I would like to mentor upcoming nail techs. My dream and my vision is six nail techs and to be able to expand to wedding parties and tourists, Guzman said. Both Miller and Guzman agree their favorite part of the business is the people and the relationships they have with them. Its the people, the relationships and using our creativity, Miller said. Their mission statement is proudly displayed in two places in the salon, and they stand behind it 100 percent: We at Dianas Design are dedicated to God, to be a light to the world thru [sic] our desire to give our highest standard of professionalism to our community thru [sic] our quality of work, meeting clients needs and our friendly atmosphere. Theyve touched the lives of people in Holmes County, but they also have customers who come from Akron and even Pittsburgh to experience the service the salon provides and because their relationships are that strong. Touching peoples lives is definitely what I enjoy most about this business, Guzman said.Find the salon at 5317 Township Road 384, Millersburg.
