Country can’t afford risk of Trump

Country can’t afford risk of Trump

Letter to the Editor,

Who knows Trump the best? Probably the people that have worked with him.

The New York Times recently published quotes from 91 people who have worked with Trump both in and out of the White House:

In 2023 Bill Barr, attorney general, said, “He will always put his own interests and gratifying his own ego ahead of … the country’s interest.”

In her 2022 book, Betsy DeVos, who had served as education secretary, said about his ability to lead the military: “His behavior had grown increasingly erratic and unnerving.”

Andrew McCabe, Republican and acting director of the FBI, said, “The FBI is under attack by the president of the United States.”

John Kelly, chief of staff, described Trump as, “A person with nothing but contempt for our democratic institutions, our Constitution and the rule of law.”

John Bolton wrote in 2020 about his time as national security adviser, “His short attention span ... renders coherent foreign policy almost unattainable.”

Trump’s sister, a former federal judge, said in 2020, “You can’t trust him.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger said, “Trump sought to overturn an election. He sought a coup by misleading people with lies.”

John Boehner said, “... taking advantage of the trust placed in him by his supporters.”

Christine LaGarde, president of the European Central Bank: “If we are to draw lessons from ... the way he ran the first four years of his mandate, clearly a threat.”

This is only 10% of the quotes. All of them speak to the risk he poses to our Constitution, rule of law and way of life.

If you want to know what regular Republican voters think, see Republican Voters against Trump. These lifelong Republicans feel strongly they can’t vote for him again. How can you, in good conscience, vote for the man they describe?

We can’t go back.
