Chippewa, Pines hosting 2-day Wayne County Amateur

The 2023 Wayne County Amateur, a two-day golf tournament, will be held Aug. 26-27 with $1,000 going to the winner.
Chippewa Golf Club and The Pines Golf Club have partnered to put on the event, the brainchild of Brad Stewart, the owner of Chippewa Golf Club, and will be held instead of the club championship that had been held for more than 50 years.
“Time had taken its toll, and the excitement that the tournament once had slowly seemed to be dwindling,” Stewart said. “With the closing of so many golf courses in the area, my staff and I were looking for ways to open up the field to include more area golfers and inject the event with some more excitement and more money. Collaborating with The Pines was the perfect solution.”
The two-day 36-hole tournament will begin at noon on Saturday, Aug. 26 at Chippewa, located near Doylestown, then shift to an 8 a.m. start on Sunday, Aug. 27 at The Pines, near Orrville. In addition to the top prize for the winner, second and third place also will have prizes with the amount determined by the total number of players. The tournament will be limited to 120 players.
The entry fee for the tournament is $175 and includes an optional $50 to be entered in a skins game. Following the tournament’s conclusion, a players reception will be held that includes hors d’oeuvres, dinner and the presentation of the winner.
