BCC hosting race for kids

Buckeye Career Center will host a free cross country race for young runners in Tuscarawas County and beyond. The Buckeye Biddy Race will be Thursday, Sept. 7 at Buckeye Career Center in New Philadelphia.
Day-of-event registration will begin at 4:15 p.m. with a disc jockey and inflatables beginning at 5 p.m. The pre-k through third grade girls race will start at 5:30 p.m., the pre-k through third grade boys race will begin at 5:50 p.m., the fourth grade through sixth grade girls race will start at 6:10 p.m. and the fourth grade through sixth grade boys race will wrap up the races at 6:30 p.m.
In addition to the free race and inflatables, each participant will receive a hot dog and drink, along with a medal. Top 10 finishers will receive additional medals, and school district team winners will receive trophies. Race Penguin is the official timing company for the event.
The cross country course is designed around the Buckeye Career Center campus and is created by energy operations students. The path guides participants through grass and around student-maintained ponds before entering a wooded but cleared area and back onto pavement.
BCC students and staff members will serve as course monitors to ensure the safety of all runners. In addition to medals, all participants will be offered refreshments at the finish line. BCC students also will provide hands-on activities related to their career-technical labs located outside of the Joe Carlisle Café. A concession stand will be available inside the cafeteria.
