Barn expert to speak in Zoar

The 2023 Zoar Free Speaker Series will continue with an informational discussion of the history of Ohio barn construction and its role in agriculture. Ohio barns expert Tom O'Grady will give this free presentation on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 11 a.m. at the Zoar School House.
“The traditional Ohio barn was the most important building in the Ohio country for nearly a century,” said O’Grady, a board member of both Friends of Ohio Barns and Ohio's Hill Country Heritage Area. “They were the most frequently encountered structure dotting the hills and plains of Ohio’s rural landscape.”
O’Grady has researched Ohio’s natural and cultural geography and settlement for 25 years, with a focus on barns, mound builders and Ohio canals. He also served in the U.S. Armed Forces with a tour in South Korea and launched the first comprehensive curbside recycling program in Athens County, Ohio in 1984.
No reservations are required. Free parking is available near the school house.
